ZANKÔ is a project that brings together Japanese calligraphy and improvised music. Calligrapher Setsuhi Shiraishi creates a powerful, physical form of expression in dialogue with outstanding improvising musicians from different countries, giving rise to a space that exists only in the present moment. Rather than presenting a finished work, the performance focuses on the act of creation itself. Movement, breath, and the traces of the brush become part of the performance, while the music is created freely in the moment, constantly responding to the calligraphy and evolving without a fixed score. Sound and line, silence and movement—where different cultures and artistic expressions intersect, a unique landscape emerges, existing only for this one moment.
